Discover Which Ionic Breeze Air Purifier is Right For You:
The Ionic Breeze air purifier is a light, small, self-cleaning, silent, energy-efficient device that can remove between 97 and 99 percent of dust mites, pet dander and allergy molds from the air of your home. There are lots of these devices currently on the market. Depending on your needs, you can spend as little as $150 or as much as $800. This article is intended to help you compare the different varieties of the ionic breeze air purifier that are available today.
At the high end, many of the units come equipped with remote controls for ease of use and are optimally employed in areas of up to 698 square feet. If you have allergies and a dog or cat, these devices are very useful. They eradicate pet dander 24-hours a day. The remote controls for these high end units work from distances of twenty feet. It’s easy, too, to replace the filter. In no more than thirty-seconds, and at very little cost, a new filter will stand between you and airborne pollutants. These filters last for six months. Most importantly, sophisticated ionic air purifying technology doesn’t emit any harmful ozone. For a bit less money you can buy an air purifier good for 400 square feet.
The devices manufactured and sold by the Sharper Image are Energy Star certified. They shave up to 35 percent off the wattage and energy expenditure used by other comparable brands. The Ionic Breeze air purifier is recommended for people sensitive to allergies. They work by creating a negative charge in (or, ionizing) airborne pollutants and particulate matter that then become attracted to electrostatically charged surfaces within the body of the machine itself. The technology works for cooking odors as well as airborne contaminants such as smoke, offensive smells and pollen. The theory behind ionic air purifiers is simple, sound, and long proven: low concentrations of negatively charged particles in the air equals pollution; high concentrations of negatively charged particles equals fresh, clean, healthy air.
At the lower end, you can still get a great deal on an air purifier. For only $360, the Sharper Image offers the Light Air IonFlow. This is a three pound device that can hang from your ceiling to clear up room on the floor. Filterless, the Light Air IonFlow is remarkably easy to use and clean. It operates silently, and completely cleans the air in just five hours.

Finding an Ionic Air Purifier:
I’m sure you remember the company The Sharper Image, as well as their retail stores and infomercials that ran all night. Well, those stores are gone, and some people think that ionic air purifiers went with them. Even though you can’t get new ionic purifiers with that name on them, you can still obtain one. You will have to investigate some other alternative options, however.
The apparent usurper of the ionic throne, the Ionic Pro is very similar to the old Ionic Breeze, although it’s much, much less expensive. There’s no increased maintenance from the Ionic Breeze. All you have to do is yoink the magnetic filter bar thingy, wipe it off, and put it back in. That’s it; no filters or anything. Also, since it doesn’t use a fan, it’s both quiet and cheap to run, especially in comparison to a HEPA purifier, though most say it is less effective. If your main goal is a cheap, silent way to purify the air in a 500 foot or less room, you might want to check out the Ionic Pro.
Those Cheap Generic Ionic Purifiers
Then there’s the ionic purifiers that have no branding at all. You can generally find them on various websites, as well as brick and mortar bargain stores for about a hundred or so dollars. The fact that they are not branded does not mean they don’t work, but you will probably have to depend on the store you bought it from if you want to claim on a warranty. Still, considering the technology that drives ionic purifiers is fairly simple, the off brands are probably at least mostly safe.
Ionic Air Purifiers With Fans
In general, an ionic air purifier won’t use a fan. It uses the constant motion of air particles being magnetically attracted to move the air and generate a light breeze. However, the only ionic purifier to receive approval from Consumer Reports did come equipped with a fan. Although this may defeat the purpose for some, those who don’t care too much about the sound might prefer these more effective ionic purifiers. After all, there’s still the advantage of decreased, filter free maintenance.
Buying A HEPA Air Purifier Instead
The other option would be a HEPA purifier. Although they promise the same things, they work quite differently. HEPA purifiers have filters that have to be replaced and, of course, cost money. If you use an ionic purifier, you don’t have to worry about replacing filters as the pollutants will get stuck by static on the bar that just has to be wiped off. Most studies show that ionic air purifiers are not as effective as HEPA air purifiers, though.(By Anthony J Davis)
